What recent guests emphasize

Comfortable stay with friendly service and great location

Guests appreciate the hotel's hillside setting with city views, clean and spacious rooms, and attentive staff. Some practical drawbacks appear regarding dated furnishings and shower pressure, but overall it offers good value and convenience for exploring Bath.

Guests often praise

  • Friendly, helpful staff offering a warm welcome and attentive service.
  • Convenient free parking, which is rare in Bath, adds ease for drivers.
  • Spacious, clean rooms with comfortable beds and large bathrooms.
  • Good cooked breakfasts, freshly prepared and well-liked by visitors.
  • Quiet hillside location with pleasant views and easy walking access to the city centre.

Worth knowing

  • Some rooms have dated decor and furnishings that could benefit from updates.
  • Showers generally have weak water pressure and limited temperature control.
  • The hotel is situated on a hill, requiring about a 15-20 minute walk downhill to the city centre.
  • WiFi is available but not frequently highlighted as a standout feature.
  • The building’s older Victorian style means some facilities reflect its age.

Best for

  • Visitors seeking affordable accommodation outside the busy city centre.
  • Travellers arriving by car who value free onsite parking.
  • Guests who appreciate a quieter, scenic location with easy bus connections to downtown.
  • Those looking for traditional, characterful Victorian lodging rather than modern luxury.
  • LGBTQ+ travellers seeking a welcoming and friendly environment.

About this property

Welcome to Wentworth House Hotel Bath

Set on a hillside overlooking Bath, Wentworth House Hotel Bath occupies an imposing Victorian building that offers guests traditional rooms with views across the city. The property combines hotel and bed & breakfast accommodations, featuring practical facilities such as an outdoor pool, a garden hot tub, and dining options. It is also recognised as LGBTQ+ friendly, welcoming a diverse range of travellers.

The location is a notable aspect, situated around a 15-minute walk from Bath city centre and about 17 minutes on foot from the railway station. While the hilltop setting provides peaceful surroundings and scenic views, some guests note the walk back can be a steep uphill, with a bus service nearby for those preferring to avoid the climb. Free parking available on-site has been appreciated by visitors, considering Bath’s limited parking options.

Guest reviews reflect a mix of experiences: rooms are described as clean, spacious, and comfortable, though some furnishings and shower facilities could benefit from updates. The breakfast service generally receives positive remarks for its quality and timing, and staff are frequently mentioned as friendly and helpful. Reviewers suggest this hotel is suitable for visitors seeking a straightforward, honest stay rather than luxury, valuing location and hospitality over glossy extras.

For those interested in exploring Bath’s historic attractions, the hotel offers convenient access to highlights such as The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and The Royal Crescent. Arrival options include nearby airports like Bristol Airport, approximately 44 minutes by car, making it accessible for domestic and international travellers alike.

The location is good and includes free parking, which can be tricky to get in bath. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The attached video gives a quick walk-around of a standard double room. The bed is comfy and the room is warm, it has a kettle with teabags, sugar and milk, a wardrobe and a toilet with a shower. The shower is quite poor, the pressure is very weak and the temperate control does nothing, it just stays at an almost luke warm temperature the whole time, but is better than nothing. The TV opposite the bed is very small and old, but would do for a bit of light watching. The service at reception and throughout the stay was very good, quick and easy to check-in and out, and flexible with the car park. Speaking of the car park, it is quite tight and probably only fits around 15 cars, we were lucky to get a space when we arrived. It’s a nice place to stay for a weekend if you don’t mind a 20 min walk into the city and a slightly average room. We were out all day and only came back to sleep, so it works fine for that purpose, and is significantly cheaper than competitors.

Lovely hotel, a good location with a 10 minutes walk to the town centre. The room was spacious well decorated but could do with a few updates

Thank you Danny for your lovely welcome and hospitality. Your cooked breakfast was worthy of you 5* food rating. This hotel is ideal for those who like walking. 20 minute walk to the city centre. Those of you that are less fit ..the no4 bus passes frequently near the hotel. The hotel has large clean rooms with dated furnishings. WiFi is available in this hotel Shower pressure is the only criticism I can give this 3*

Lovely little stay friendly owner who allowed us to leave car at property after checking out so we could go to xmas markets. The rooms are clean and tidy bed was little squeky but not end of world, shower was clean although pressure little low but we were on top floor and it's old building it happens and wouldn't stop us staying again. Lovely walk down hill.to town takes.about 20 mins taxi was about £7 back. Breakfast available we didn't have any but looked lovely and fresh. Over all value for money and would stay again

Sometimes you feel compelled to write a review. We had a last minute stay in Bath and were looking for an affordable, decent hotel close to bath but not in the centre. We found it with the Wentworth House Hotel. From the free parking, late-ish (arrived in darkness) welcome after a long drive and some good directions to our forward destination we knew we'd chosen well. Yes, there are some low star reviews for this establishment but I wonder if they picked the wrong hotel. If you're looking for swish, silver service with mints on your pillow and uniformed staff - keep looking. If you're looking for a clean, good, honest 'head down tummy full' stay, they this is perfect. Which brings me on to the breakfast - splendid stuff. Freshly cooked (they asked what time we'd be sitting down for it so it could be timed perfectly), it was hot, tasty and plentiful. And oh my, that sausage... So in list form and to conclude - free parking, lovely building, well kept facilities, a bar, good size room (with toiletries), a fabulous view, friendly welcome, excellent breakfast and just 15 minutes walk to the centre of Bath. (Take the bus back - a tip from another review and well worth doing - it's a long hill after a big meal). Thank you WHH - we'll be back.
